And dont forget allthe ruined clothes after spilling indian ink on them, and the skill in which we can handle a blade. Personally, I think being a manual draftsperson is an art, being a cad draftsman is a skill.
I didn't initially go towards drafting as my tech drawing skills sucked. Computers fixed that and here I am. And people think Zorro can handle a blade.. The UPS man would even slip in the back door to deliver a set of revised drawings from the Architect, deliver them and slip back out I think I had more "yard clothes" due to ink stains that the average person. The "drafting brush" mine got as thin as my hair but I do still have some brushing the eraser residue off the drafting table.
We placed a couple of "sky-hooks" on a copy of the revised drawings. We went back to the original Structural drawings. I had one of those electric erasers with the long spinning eraser shaft. You had to have a fine touch to avoid burning a hole in the mylar, and even finer to erase vellum.
We used metal erasing shields for those 'surgical' changes. Don't forget the 'drafting' tape that had to be sticky enough to hold the paper down, but not tear the vellum. Cleaning the tables was a chore too. We had to use some strong solvents to get the india ink off the table pads - and the pads kept coming loose after a weekend of high humidy levels.
And of course, the crowning memory, the blueprint machine chewing up a drawing that I worked a few dozen hours on.
