At checkout the gamestop employee started to offer the 40 dollar gamestop warranty thing. I asked him if it was an extended warranty on top of Sonys 1 year warranty to witch he replied no it wasn't.

I told my friend not to do it since it was kinda a waste of money. The employee went on to explain the convenience of being able to exchange a ps4 for the whole year without having to send it into sony if there ever were a problem.

My buddy said he would risk it since sony products are built like tanks and his launch ps3 was still running like a champ. The employee's manager went on to explain that if my friend purchased the ps4 without the gamestop warranty and went home with it, even if it turns out to be a brick out of the box, we would not be able to return it or exchange it with the recipt. We would have to exchange with sony. Is this true? Or was this guy just being a douche? Don't they have to honor some kind of 30 day return policy on faulty products?

They technically can refuse to exchange the PS4 if it was defective because it's an opened, new product, but most managers would look the other way and just exchange it.

Most of what I've said is based on my own experience working at an EB for three years. I'm sure others will disagree and that's fine; they're entitled to their opinions.

I took it back into the local EB, and they gave me a new system not preowned and a new copy of Burnout 3 to replace it.

Quite frankly, it was the best turnaround on a warranty I've ever had. Based on that, I'll buy the ext. I was treated real well by my local EBGames. I'm not sure if it is because I stop in every few days or if it is common practice but - I had one sytem die on me PS2 and a GBA SP that I bought with 1 dead pixel dead center which I never bothered returning within the first month so I thought I was S.

I got the replacement plan on both - but both were palns were definitely expired when I brought them in. I had them both for over a year. When I brought them in to EBGames - internal their system had no info at all on my previous plans. The associates returned the systems as generally defective and game me brand new units. I didn't have to give them any persoanl info at all which I thought was awesome too. For all intents and purposes I had no proof of my replacement plan, I may not have bought the systems from EBGames at all and they had no proof of the replacement plan.
